The modern law enforcement agency faces the challenge of protecting the public and upholding the peace while on a limited budget. Among daily tasks, officers take part in activities such as collecting evidence, reconstructing crime scenes, performing high-risk ERT missions, conducting search & rescue operations, and monitoring large crowds. Traditionally being able to keep up with a dynamic society meant increasing the budget, but now Unmanned Aerial Vehicles offer an economical and effective way to carry out the tasks needed to protect and serve the planet’s citizens. This paper discusses the intersection of law enforcement and UAV technology, covering scenarios, case studies, status quo, and thoughts on improvement with a focus on crowd monitoring applications.
